# General Invoices

> General Invoices is a macOS desktop app that automates invoice and receipt data entry into the Excel workbook a small business or bookkeeper already uses. It learns the existing workbook's layout, previews every entry cell by cell, backs the file up, and writes only after the user approves. The workbook never leaves the user's computer. Not released yet; the waitlist is open.

- Category: invoice and receipt data-entry automation for Excel bookkeeping. It is NOT accounting software: no bank feeds, reconciliation, payroll, or tax filing.
- Works with: Microsoft Excel .xlsx and .xlsm workbooks stored on the user's computer, one workbook at a time (switch from File > Open Workbook). Not Google Sheets, Numbers, or LibreOffice.
- Platforms: macOS desktop app. A Windows version is planned, not released.
- Input: PDF and photo invoices and receipts, dragged in singly or in batches, up to 30 pages and 10 MB per document. Email forwarding and direct Gmail/Outlook connections are planned after launch and are not available yet.
- Sign-in: email and password, magic link, or Google, Microsoft or Apple (via Supabase).
- AI: Claude (Anthropic) reads invoices, and a layout summary of the workbook with every number, amount and date masked. Deterministic, tested code, not the AI, does all writing.
- What leaves the computer: invoice documents; the masked layout summary (sheet names, column headers, sample text cells, formula text); up to eight example notes with every digit replaced by #; setup-chat messages. The workbook file, its backups and its activity log never leave.
- Safety: cell-level preview, then verification on a copy, a structure-fingerprint check, a timestamped backup (the five most recent are kept), a write to a temp file, and an atomic swap. It refuses to write if the workbook is open in Excel, changed since approval, or the invoice is a duplicate (same vendor, amount, date). It refuses layouts it cannot express safely rather than guessing.
- Evidence: 1,435 automated tests (verified 2026-09-12); tested against copies of real small-business workbooks; on a corpus of ten further common layouts, eight posted correctly, two were refused with an explanation, none were written incorrectly.
- Launch pricing (USD per month, app not yet released): Free, 10 invoices; Starter $29, up to 50; Growth $79, up to 200; Pro $199, up to 600. Every plan has the same features; plans differ only by monthly allowance. Custom plans for accounting firms.
